Dear Hawthorn Families,

This school year is off to an amazing start. It has been so wonderful to see all of our Hawks back in the building as we have kicked off this school year. The buzz and excitement around our building has been incredible to be a part of, and we hope that your children are coming home sharing about all the amazing things they are learning.

Hawthorn Clubs

Club information was sent home on September 1st. We offer a wide array of before and after school options to help our Hawks feel connected to the school community. Please see the handbook below for additional information.

MAP Information:

2022-2023 MAP results will be sent home with students in grades 4 & 5 (last year's 3rd & 4th graders) on Friday, September 8th. Those students that were in 5th grade last school year will receive their Individual Score Reports (ISR) from DuBray Middle School. You can read more about the assessment and how to interpret the scores here.

Leader In Me:

This year we are continuing our Leader in Me journey, focusing on student goal setting, student leadership roles within the classrooms and building, and increasing partnerships with our families. We are excited about our direction, and will be sharing more iinformation as the year progresses.

Reading Assessments:

We have begun our beginning of the year reading assessments. This gives our teachers a strong understanding of where students are in terms of their literacy skills. Families will receive score reports once all testing and scoring are complete. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher with questions about academics.

Dance-A-Thon:

Our Fall Fundraiser kicks off on Tuesday, September 5th, and runs through Friday, September 15th. All students will participate in our Dance-A-Thon on the 15th, and it should be a great time. Thank you for your support of our PTO, they do so much to provide for our students and staff.

Make sure that you have downloaded the Fort Zumwalt APP so that you can stay in touch with all the communication!

Remember that, when you download the app, you should tap the Menu in the lower left, then Settings in the lower right. Set your default organization to the school you want to see when you open the app (HES). Use the “My Organizations” list to add other schools or the district to make sure you get all important notifications. When you return to the home screen, use the schools button in the lower right to navigate between your favorite pages.
